In the path of a raging wildfire in Northern California that has become the state's largest fire of the year, two people were discovered dead inside a burned-out car. The victims were found around 10 a.m. PT on Sunday by fire personnel battling the McKinney Fire. The identities of the two dead are not being released until their families have been notified.

The McKinney Fire has consumed more than 55,000 acres, as a result of which, California's Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency over the fire, starting on Friday. Thanks to a light rain that fell over and a slight rise in humidity overall, firefighters made progress. Still, the conditions can be extremely dangerous for firefighters, which poses a complex challenge to overcome.
